Providing the best advice and counsel is only possible when an attorney starts with a solid understanding of a client’s business and goals. That’s particularly true when counseling fledgling operations, where early-stage decisions can determine whether a venture succeeds — eventually bringing a new concept to market — or folds, consigning a potential game-changer, perhaps, to the innovation dust heap. Notably, implementing the right corporate governance strategy can make a big difference down the road. When working with start-ups, I commit to understanding their business challenges, the industries in which they operate, and the competitive pressures of the marketplace. Are they in compliance with industry regulations? Are the terms of that merger, acquisition, or venture financing favorable? In short — I strive to help clients to ask the right questions, review all available options, and take their best shot at success.

Fun facts
I love to travel. Recent trips include Indonesia (featuring a trek to the summit of the active volcano Mount Rinjani on the island of Lombok), South Africa, Israel, Thailand, Egypt, and Singapore. My other passions include running, scuba diving, reading, and hiking with my Australian Cattle Dog pup, Luna.

What’s your favorite app?
I continue to be impressed by the way that mobile technology has revolutionized transportation. I find that I can’t live without ride-sharing apps like Uber and Via, which I use almost daily. And when I’m driving, Waze is king.

What’s the most valuable question you have learned in business?
There really is no such thing as a stupid question.

What’s the most unusual thing in your office?
A desktop Zen garden filled with memory sand. It’s supposed to be a stress reliever, but really serves as more of a conversation piece.

What new technology will most impact the future 10 years from now?
The VR space is the one that I’ll be watching most closely.
