What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in business?
A percentage of a lot is greater than a percentage of a little.

 

It is an incredible feeling to have a vision and watch as it expands to a small circle of co-founders and then beyond: to employees, advisors, investors, suppliers, and, ultimately, customers and the greater community.  The opportunity to impact people on all these different levels is a profound experience.  In 2006, I co-founded BlueTree Marketing, which helps charitable organizations with online fundraising.  I subsequently co-founded ApplyU, which sought to revolutionize the college admission process by enabling students and schools to seek optimal matches by expressing interest in one another, analogous to online dating. As a co-founder of multiple start-ups, I have done it all: formulating and designing initial concepts, recruiting staff, securing angel funding, forming strategic partnerships, creating and implementing marketing plans, and collaborating with outside counsel on the submission of a US patent filing.  These experiences, together with a successful prior career in sales and additional legal experience advising later-stage companies at a large international law firm, inform my work with start-ups at Mintz Levin. I advise early-stage companies on formation and corporate governance issues, business and legal strategies, financing options and structures, and, when the time is right, mergers and acquisitions.  As a former entrepreneur with a mindset most fundamentally grounded in teamwork – until recently, I played semi-professional football as a quarterback – I understand how to work with teams.  As your advisor, I will help yours grow and advance.
