Meet Ben Stone
I help entrepreneurs grow profitable businesses that make a positive difference in the world. Before joining Mintz, I was managing director and general counsel of MCE Social Capital, an investment firm that finances businesses focused on clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and financial inclusion. Earlier, as director of start-up development at American Express, I led a team creating initiatives to fuel high-growth entrepreneurship in the United States. I also helped start Indego Africa — serving as COO, general counsel, and later CEO — which provides thousands of female entrepreneurs in Rwanda and Ghana with access to global markets and business education. And I built Dollar a Day, a web platform for people to discover and support small, effective nonprofits. Whether you need assistance developing effective business and legal strategies for your start-up or representation in a financing deal, I can help. I’ve closed hundreds of millions of dollars of VC and debt financings, acquisitions, and securities offerings and successfully guided dozens of companies through countless challenges and opportunities.
I wrote, produced, and directed a musical in college. I’ve had my photography exhibited and sold in professional galleries in NYC. And I grew up in very rural Maine.
If I weren’t a lawyer, I would be …
A stay-at-home dad and/or a CEO and/or competing in the professional table tennis circuit.
My heroes are…
All of the female artisan entrepreneurs I have partnered with in Rwanda over the last 10+ years. And Abe Lincoln.
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in business is…
Kindness, empathy, and transparency can lead to transformative business results when deployed appropriately.
